Correct use of smooth grease

The Correct Use of Grease

Grease plays a vital role in the smooth operation and long-term performance of bearings. Proper application is essential to ensure that the bearing functions efficiently, reduces friction, and extends its service life. Here are some key tips for the correct use of grease: (1) The amount of grease added should be appropriate. Too much can increase internal resistance, raise temperatures, and accelerate grease consumption, while too little may not provide sufficient lubrication. Typically, the recommended amount is between 1/3 to 1/2 of the total space inside the bearing. In some cases, it’s better to apply grease at the edge of the bearing to ensure even distribution. (2) Avoid mixing different types or brands of grease, especially old and new ones. Using contaminated containers or mixing incompatible greases can lower the dropping point, increase penetration, and reduce mechanical stability. Always check compatibility before mixing. (3) When replacing old grease with new, make sure to clean the bearing thoroughly and remove all the old grease. New grease should be added until fresh grease appears at the outlet. It's also important to test new grease on old equipment first to avoid potential issues. (4) Maintain hygiene when handling grease. Ensure that all tools, containers, and surfaces are clean before adding grease to prevent contamination from dust, sand, or other impurities. (5) Adjust grease type according to the season. Temperature fluctuations between summer and winter can affect grease performance. Using the wrong type in the wrong season can lead to poor lubrication and increased wear. (6) Replace grease based on operating conditions and usage. Regular maintenance ensures that the grease remains effective and prevents the formation of sludge or deposits that can damage the bearing. (7) Never store grease in wooden or paper containers. These materials can cause oil loss, hardening, or contamination. Instead, keep grease in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
