Suzuki Jimny fixed bolts loosened global recall of 77,000 small SUVs

Suzuki has recently issued a major recall across several markets, including Japan and China, affecting two of its popular models: the Jimny and the AZ-Offroad. According to a detailed report from foreign media, the Japanese automaker is addressing a potential safety issue related to the front suspension system of these vehicles. The Chinese General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) announced on May 16 that Suzuki (China) will recall 6,131 units of the Jimny equipped with a 1.3-liter engine. These vehicles were manufactured between May 14, 2012, and March 24, 2014. The problem stems from the use of elastic washers in the tie rod and axle shell joints of the front wheel suspension. This design choice led to reduced tightening torque on the fixing bolts, which could eventually cause them to loosen over time. If the bolts become loose, drivers may experience unusual noises and vibrations in the steering wheel. Continued use without addressing the issue could lead to the bolts falling off entirely, significantly degrading steering performance. This not only affects handling but also reduces the overall stability of the vehicle, creating a serious safety risk for drivers and passengers alike. In addition to the Jimny, the recall also covers the AZ-Offroad model, which is sold under the Mazda brand in Japan. A total of 31,744 units are affected globally, with 6,131 of those in China and an additional 45,589 units across international markets such as Germany and Australia. The total number of recalled vehicles worldwide reaches 77,333. This recall highlights the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and the need for manufacturers to address potential design flaws proactively. Owners of affected models are advised to contact their local Suzuki dealerships to schedule inspections and necessary repairs at no cost.
