Suzuki has recently issued a global recall of two of its popular models, the Jimny and AZ-Offroad, affecting both the Japanese and overseas markets, including China. The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) officially announced the recall on May 16, revealing that Suzuki (China) will be recalling 6,131 units of the 1.3L Jimny model. These vehicles were manufactured between May 14, 2012, and March 24, 2014.
The issue stems from the use of elastic washers in the tie rod and axle shell joints within the front wheel cushioning system. This design choice led to reduced tightening torque on the fixing bolts, which could eventually cause them to loosen over time. If left unaddressed, this problem can result in abnormal noises, steering wheel vibrations, and even the complete detachment of the bolts, significantly impacting steering performance and vehicle stability.
The safety risks associated with this defect are serious. A loose fixing bolt not only affects handling but also increases the likelihood of accidents due to decreased control and stability. Owners are strongly advised to contact their local Suzuki dealerships for free inspections and necessary repairs.
In addition to the Jimny, the recall also includes the AZ-Offroad model, known as the Mazda CX-3 in Japan. A total of 31,744 units of the AZ-Offroad are affected globally. Alongside the 6,131 vehicles in China, the recall extends to 45,589 units in international markets such as Germany and Australia, bringing the total number of recalled vehicles to 77,333.
