Fujian Province has become a major hub for the stone industry, with over 1,200 stone import and export companies operating alongside more than 6,000 stone processing factories. The region is home to over 500 trading companies involved in stone exports, more than 10 designated stone export ports, and over 10 professional building materials markets. As the largest stone production province in China, Fujian plays a critical role in the national and global stone trade.
Xiamen, recognized as a cross-strait regional financial service center, serves as a key driver for the development of the stone industry in Fujian. Since 2012, the Xiamen International Stone Trading Center has seen significant investment and growth, with over 70-80 enterprises now settled in the area. Many of these are well-known names in the global stone industry. Over 1,200 stone import and export companies are based in Xiamen, supported by more than 6,000 stone processing plants across the city and surrounding regions. The annual Xiamen International Stone Exhibition has gained international attention, drawing traders from around the world, including those following the trend of the Verona Stone Fair—the largest stone exhibition in the world.
The Xiamen International Stone Trading Center not only boosts local stone processing and trade but also aims to position itself as an "International Stone Center" that influences the global stone industry. According to data from Xiamen Customs, between January and November 2012, the district exported 4,332,700 tons of stone, valued at $2 billion, accounting for 63% of the total national stone exports and 70.17% of the total value of goods in the same period. Fujian continues to lead the country in stone production value, output, and export revenue.
The stone industry is most concentrated in Shuitou Town, Nan’an City, known as “China Stone Industry City.†The area benefits from rich stone resources, a favorable geographical location, and a long history of stone processing. It serves as a vital distribution center for people, capital, materials, and information, radiating influence across the Asia-Pacific region. With the support of domestic economic policies and large-scale public construction projects, the demand for stone has surged, driving the expansion of raw material blocks in Nan’an and Hui’an. Thousands of stone enterprises now operate through the Shihu Port Area.
Additionally, Quanzhou’s Shihu Port is strategically located near Nan’an City, the “Hometown of Chinese Building Materials,†and Hui’an County, the “China Stone Carving Capital.†This gives it unique geographical advantages. After years of development, Shihu Port has become the most important import stone port in China, recognized by many traders. It has evolved from a dumping port into a designated unloading site, with a daily-operating stone logistics trading market. Currently, the stone import volume at Shihu Port accounts for over 30% of the national total, ranking second only to Xiamen Port.
