My day: Renhao furniture brand manager
When Liu Qiang woke up and started his daily routine, You Yiyun was still in the final moments of her dream. As a young brand director, she carries more responsibility and pressure than many of her peers. For her, the first thing each day after turning on her computer isn't to log into QQ, but to review the work schedule. "On the first night, I break down my tasks into two categories: external and internal operations. After work, I divide them based on urgency and importance to plan my next steps." She explained. This morning's task was clear, but the demands of her role kept her constantly engaged.
In her view, the most crucial aspect for a manager isn’t just assigning tasks, but identifying the core values that drive the company forward. "It’s about understanding where your personal strengths align with the company’s needs, and then using that synergy to create value—both for yourself and the organization." This 80s-born executive has a deep sense of purpose, which sets her apart from the generation before her.
Her dedication even extends into lunch breaks. Watching industry news has become a habit for her after meals. "You should use your break time to learn, not just relax," she said. "I read professional magazines and check out the latest trends online. Even if I take a short break, it’s never the right time to stop working." She clicked on an article about furniture innovations, but before she could fully absorb the information, the office began to fill with visitors. Her unfinished morning tasks had to be set aside again. Despite working beyond the company’s official hours, she remained focused, believing that "time management should be flexible and based on work progress and mental state."
By over 9 PM, You Yiyun finally wrapped up her day. At that point, she returned to her true self. "After work is all mine. Whether I'm reading a book, watching a movie, or chatting with colleagues about food and gossip, as long as it's not work-related, it's my favorite time." She joked, "It’s like I’m two different people during the day and after work."
But when the conversation turned to her industry, she quickly became serious again. "I believe the main issues facing Shenzhen’s furniture sector are the loss of manufacturing advantages and weak regulatory frameworks. The market is oversaturated, yet the upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors aren’t cooperating fairly. This leads to uneven distribution of profits and resources. That’s why the industry urgently needs better regulation and resource optimization." Despite the challenges, she still loves Shenzhen. "Everyone here can find their own space, and so can I."
"If you could go back in time, would you still choose this career?"
"Once chosen, I wouldn’t look back. If time allows, I want to be the best executive I can be in this industry."
