My day: Renhao furniture brand manager
When Liu Qiang woke up and started his day, You Yiyun was still in the middle of her final dream. As a young brand director, she carries more responsibility and pressure than many of her peers. For her, the first thing each morning isn’t to log on to QQ, but to review her work schedule. “I start by categorizing my tasks into external and internal operations. After work, I break everything down based on urgency to plan my day effectively.†She said. Her own task for the morning was clear and structured.
In her opinion, the most important role of a manager isn’t just assigning tasks, but identifying the core value that drives the company forward. “You need to understand your position within the business and align your personal strengths with the company’s needs. That way, you can maximize your impact and help both yourself and the company grow together.†This 80s-born executive has a deep understanding of her responsibilities, yet her approach is very different from that of her parents.
Her dedication even extends into lunch breaks. Watching industry news has become a daily habit after her meal. “Even during breaks, it’s important to keep learning. I read professional magazines and check out the latest trends online. Sometimes I take a short break, but today isn’t the right time for that.†She clicked on a new article, but before she could fully absorb the information, the flow of visitors increased, forcing her to put her reading aside. Even though she had already finished her work hours, she remained focused and productive, believing that “this is just about managing time based on what needs to be done and how I feel mentally.â€
By 9 p.m., after wrapping up her day, You Yiyun returned to her usual self. “After work, it’s all about me. Whether I’m reading a book, watching a movie, or chatting with colleagues about food and gossip, as long as it’s not work, it’s my favorite time.†She clearly separates her professional and personal life.
But when she talks about the furniture industry, her tone changes. “I believe the main issues in Shenzhen’s furniture sector are the loss of manufacturing advantages and weak regulatory frameworks. The market is oversaturated, but the upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors don’t cooperate fairly. This leads to unequal distribution of benefits and resources. The industry urgently needs better coordination and stronger oversight.†Despite this, she still loves Shenzhen. “It’s a place where everyone can find their stage, including me.â€
“If you could go back in time, would you choose the same career?â€
“Once you’ve made the choice, you don’t look back. If time allows, I will always do my best to be an excellent executive in the furniture industry.â€
