The main bearing of a cement mill plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth and efficient operation. Traditionally, these bearings were sealed using wool felt rings, which are prone to wear and provide unreliable sealing. Over time, dust particles can enter through the gaps between the worn felt ring and the hollow shaft, leading to abrasive wear and blockage of the oil passages in the spherical SKF bearing bush. This not only reduces the lifespan of the bearing but also increases maintenance costs.
To address this issue, an improved sealing method has been introduced. The radial labyrinth sealing technique was applied, using two steel sealing rings—one male and one female—designed to fit into radial annular labyrinth grooves. These rings are mounted on the main bearing cover and the hollow shaft, respectively. A small amount of grease is applied in the labyrinth before installation to reduce friction and enhance the sealing effect. This system ensures that the stationary seal on the bearing cover remains fixed while the rotating seal on the hollow shaft moves with it, effectively preventing dust and other impurities from entering the bearing.
The improvement in sealing significantly enhances the performance of the bearing bush and helps maintain proper gear meshing. When the balance shaft gear and its corresponding axis do not mesh correctly, it can cause periodic bending stress on the balance shaft, eventually leading to cracks and failure. Therefore, maintaining precise alignment and minimizing wear is essential for the long-term reliability of the mill.
In addition, during operation, friction, heat, and wear occur between the hollow shaft journal and the main bearing's spherical tile. This results in energy loss due to friction power consumption. To minimize these effects, it is important to ensure high-quality lubrication and smooth operation. Poor lubrication or contamination can lead to serious issues such as burning of the bearing tile, which may result in costly downtime and production delays.
For new cement mills, it is essential to apply lubricating oil on the shaft surfaces before testing to prevent damage caused by dry friction. After initial running, the oil should be replaced to remove any fine babbitt particles that may have formed, which could otherwise cause abrasive wear. During maintenance, improper installation of components like the balance shaft can lead to misalignment and excessive vibration, ultimately causing cracks in the shaft.
As the cement industry continues to evolve toward larger and more automated systems, preventive maintenance becomes increasingly important. A well-planned pre-repair strategy is necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the mill and avoid unexpected failures. Proper installation, sealing, and lubrication techniques are key to extending the service life of the main bearing and improving overall efficiency.

Microbend Mass Flow Meter
Sealand is a trustworthy manufacturer of Microbend Mass Flow Meter, Microbend Mass Flowmeter, Microbend Coriolis Mass Flow Meter, Microbend Coriolis Mass Flowmeter.
Site Selection for Mass Flow Meter Installation
a) Sensor stays away from mechanical vibration source, for example, pump. Use flexible pipe to connect meter with pipeline if inevitable. The housing of meter must be standalone, out of touch with any other device. There must be 3 times the size of sensor between 2 sensors if there are many flow meters on the same pipeline, to avoid resonance.
b) Do not install sensor on pipeline that easily expands with hot and contracts with cold, especially near expansion joint, which leads to a worse stability.
c) Sensor stays away from industrial electromagnetic field, such as large generator and transformer, better 5m at least. Such device influences the performance of drive coil and pickoffs. Make sure magnetic field intensity less than 400A/m.
d) Sensor shall be installed on lower pipeline, to be easily full of fluid.
e) Make sure Ex-mark meet application requirements if in hazardous area.
f) Build a sunshade if the meter is under direct solar radiation. g) Keep the meter from corrosive liquid.
