On December 21st, Du Guanghua, the owner of a wire mesh network in Yongkang Hardware City, invited his staff to celebrate the winter solstice. One employee was too busy to join the gathering and left the scene. In a heroic act, Du Guanghua, who was known for his generosity, jumped into the river to save the employee but tragically lost his life.
Du Guanghua, 31 years old, hailed from Anping County, Hebei Province, and ran a hardware wholesale business in Yongkang. His story quickly spread across social media platforms like Tencent and Baidu, sparking widespread public attention. On December 24, the mayor of Yongkang and the city's Party Secretary issued instructions urging people to learn from Du Guanghua's selfless act. The following day, he was posthumously honored with the title of "Brave Hero."
The China International Hardware Exhibition (CIHS), Asia's largest hardware event, was deeply moved by Du Guanghua's sacrifice. Deputy Director Li from the CIHS Organizing Committee expressed admiration for his bravery, noting that many hardware entrepreneurs work hard and maintain integrity despite challenges. "Their sincerity and dedication are key to their success," Li said. "Through events like the CIHS, we see the positive energy and humanity within them."
In addition to Du Guanghua, other industry leaders have also contributed to society. For instance, the Jinhua Tool Industry Association donated over 314,500 yuan to a primary school in Tangxi Town, Jinhua, helping build a playground, basketball court, and equipping classrooms with desks, chairs, and computers. The school was renamed "Jinhua City Tool Industry Association Love School." Similarly, Fu Bo from Jinhua Xinheng Tools Co., Ltd. has supported a local primary school for three consecutive years, improving student meals and nutrition.
Inspired by such acts, the CIHS Organizing Committee decided to hold large-scale charity activities during the 13th China International Hardware Exhibition, which took place from November 26 to 28, 2013. The event aimed to honor Du Guanghua and other inspiring figures.
Established in 2001, the China International Hardware Exhibition is the second-largest in the world and the top in the Asia-Pacific region. It is co-organized by several leading associations and companies, including the China Hardware Products Association, Germany's Cologne International Exhibition Co., Ltd., and the National Federation of Industry and Commerce Hardware and Electrical Chamber of Commerce. The event received support from international organizations like IHA and EDRA.
The 13th edition of the exhibition was held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center, featuring nearly 140,000 square meters of exhibition space. Over 3,000 exhibitors participated, representing more than 90% of the top domestic hardware enterprises. The event attracted over 50,000 professional visitors, including more than 3,500 from overseas.
