Interview with Zhong Xinguo, Innovation Pioneer in the Field of Steel Structures
Zhong Xinguo, a project manager at China Construction Third Bureau and a nationally certified first-class constructor, has made a significant impact in the steel structure industry over the past 12 years. Despite his relatively short career in this field, he has earned two national scientific and technological achievement awards, two national invention patents, and contributed to seven Hubei provincial engineering methods. His work on the Shanghai Pudong Airport A380 overhaul hangar and the Huangshi Stadium steel structure projects was recognized with the Golden Steel Award in both 2009 and 2010, while the Huangshi project also received the prestigious “National Worker Pioneer†title.
In 2008, Zhong was appointed as the steel structure installation project manager for the A380 overhaul hangar at Shanghai Pudong Airport. This was the largest single-span steel roof structure in Asia at the time. His team’s innovative use of hydraulic synchronous lifting technology won the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Progress Award. Additionally, the “Solid Welded Ball Grid Construction Method†and “Complete Lifting Method for Large Roofs†were recognized by the Hubei Provincial Construction Law, leading to one national invention patent and a Golden Steel Award from the Shanghai Metal Structure Association.
In 2009, he took charge of the steel structure safety and security project at the Huangshi Stadium. The comprehensive construction technology for the space skewboard skew grid was honored with two national scientific and technological achievement awards and another Golden Steel Award. He also led the development of four engineering methods, including the “Super-Heterotype Welded Steel Joints Production Method,†which were officially recognized as Hubei provincial construction methods. Furthermore, he completed one additional invention patent during this period.
For Zhong Xinguo, innovation starts with learning. He treats work and study as essential parts of his life. Most of his free time is spent reading, researching, and applying new knowledge to his projects. Through hard work, he became one of the first in China to pass the first-class constructor qualification exam. His continuous learning has enabled him to achieve remarkable success in his career.
