
A breakthrough in lightweight materials has been achieved, with high-performance cast aluminum alloy wheels now being used on motorcycles. This innovation not only reduces weight but also significantly enhances performance. On December 7, the major scientific and technological research project "Development of High-Performance Cast Aluminum Alloy and Its Application to Motorcycle Wheels," based in Chongqing, successfully passed expert evaluation.
The project was initiated in 2008, under the coordination of the Chongqing Municipal Science and Technology Commission. Chongqing Jieli Wheel Manufacturing Co., Ltd. partnered with Chongqing University to conduct joint research and development, investing a total of 4 million yuan in the effort. The goal was to create advanced casting aluminum alloy materials and apply them to mass production of motorcycle wheels.
According to the project leader, the new technology allows for a weight reduction of 5.5% to 7% compared to traditional motorcycle cast aluminum alloy wheels. In addition, the performance of these wheels has improved by approximately 30%, enabling higher speeds, lower energy consumption, and contributing to energy conservation and emission reduction.
With the successful development of this high-performance aluminum alloy, Jieli Company has completed its technological transformation. They have established a production line capable of manufacturing over one million high-performance cast aluminum alloy wheels annually, successfully converting research results into commercial products.
During the project's implementation period, Jieli produced a total of 1.71 million wheels. These products are widely used in Yamaha motorcycles and have also been exported to international markets such as India, Vietnam, and Brazil. The company has generated nearly 200 million yuan in sales revenue, showing great potential for future growth and expansion.
