National Abrasives Standardization Work Conference Held in Yunnan

The 2012 National Abrasives Standardization Work Conference and Standards Review Meeting took place in Jinghong City, Yunnan Province, from November 16th to 19th. This event was organized by the National Abrasives Standardization Technical Committee (referred to as the "Standard Committee"), which brought together representatives from various regions across the country. Attendees included commissioners and members of the four sub-technical committees—general abrasives, ordinary abrasives, silicon carbide special products, and superhard materials—as well as representatives from production, management, education, and research institutions, totaling 119 participants. Liu Mingyao, Chairman of the Standard Committee and Deputy Director of the Zhengzhou Abrasives Grinding Research Institute, chaired the conference. Other key figures present included Li Xianchao (Deputy Director of the Standard Committee and General Manager of Zibo Sisha Taishan Abrasives Co., Ltd.), Liu Minqiang (Deputy General Manager of White Pigeon Grinding Mill), Liu Yibo (Deputy General Manager of Beijing Antai Steel Research Superhard Materials Co., Ltd.), Li Zhihong (Secretary General of the Superhard Materials Branch of the China Machine Tool Industry Association), Wang Mingyuan (Secretary General of the Coated Abrasives Branch of the China Machine Tool & Tool Industry Association), and Dai Hongjun (Senior Consultant of the Abrasives and Abrasives Branch of the China Machine Tool Industry Association). These individuals actively participated in reviewing relevant standards and discussing standard revision projects. Zhong Yanzheng, Deputy Director of the Standardization Committee and Deputy Director of the National Abrasives Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, delivered the work report and deployment for 2012 from the Standards Committee Secretariat, along with the 2013 Standard Revision Plan. Additionally, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology provided updates on the latest requirements and project review procedures for industry standards. During the conference, the relevant technical committees of the Standardization Committee reviewed and approved two national standards and three mechanical industry standards. These included: 1. **Safety Requirements for Bonded Abrasives** (based on the European standard EN12413). After approval, the current mandatory standard GB 2494-2003, "General Abrasives Safety Rules," will remain mandatory. 2. **Spinning Test Method of Grinding Wheel** (to replace GB/T 2493-1995). 3. **Code and Marking of Electroplated Products for Superabrasive Products** (to replace JB/T 7991.1-2001). 4. **Superhard Abrasive Products Diamond Soft Grinding Sheet** (the first industry standard). 5. **Superhard Abrasive Detonation Nanodiamond** (the first industry standard). However, the mechanical industry standard "Diamond Abrasive Products Diamond Coating Drawing Mold" (submission draft) submitted by the Technical Committee for Superhard Materials and Products was not approved due to technical issues such as requirements, testing methods, and formatting. It is planned for further revision and re-examination in the future. According to the feedback from the meeting's review, after the drafting units of the approved standards submit their drafts, the national standards will be submitted to the National Standardization Administration for approval, while the mechanical industry standards will be sent to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for approval. Implementation is anticipated for the second half of 2013 or the first half of 2014. Additionally, during the conference, the relevant sub-technical committees discussed proposals for standard revisions and new formulations. They unanimously agreed to include "Safety Requirements for Coated Abrasives," "Methods for Measuring the Density of Ordinary Abrasive Powders," and "Magnetic Abrasives" in the standard formulation project declaration stage. Similarly, they agreed to move "Ordinary Abrasive P Fine Powder Particle Size Composition Determination Method" and "Consolidated Abrasive Technology Requirements" into the standard revision project declaration stage. Furthermore, recent developments have seen the official approval of "Ordinary Abrasive Ceramic Corundum," "Superhard Abrasive Titanium Diamond," and "Measurement of Capillary Capillary Phenomena" by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for inclusion in the Machinery Industry Standards Revision Plan. These projects require completion in 2013. This conference was a significant step forward in standardizing the abrasives industry, ensuring safety, efficiency, and innovation in manufacturing processes.
