National Abrasives Standardization Work Conference Held in Yunnan

The 2012 National Abrasives Standardization Work Conference and Standards Review Meeting took place in Jinghong City, Yunnan Province, from November 16th to 19th. This significant event brought together members and representatives from the National Abrasives Standardization Technical Committee (referred to as the "Standard Committee") across the country. Attendees included commissioners, general abrasives, ordinary abrasives, silicon carbide specialty product, superhard materials, and coated abrasives sub-technical committee members, along with representatives from production, management, education, and research institutions, totaling 119 participants. Liu Mingyao, Chairman of the Standard Committee and Deputy Director of the Zhengzhou Abrasives Grinding Research Institute, presided over the meeting. Other key attendees included Li Xianchao, Deputy Director of the Standard Committee (General Manager of Zibo Sisha Taishan Abrasives Co., Ltd.), Liu Minqiang (Deputy General Manager of White Pigeon Grinding Mill), Liu Yibo (Deputy General Manager of Beijing Antai Steel Research Superhard Materials Co., Ltd.), Li Zhihong (Secretary General of the China Machine Tool Industry Association’s Superhard Materials Branch), Wang Mingyuan (Secretary General of the China Machine Tool & Tool Industry Association Coated Abrasives Branch), and Dai Hongjun (Senior Consultant of the China Machine Tool Industry Association’s Abrasives and Abrasives Branch). These individuals participated in the review of relevant standards and projects. Additionally, Zhong Yanzheng, Deputy Director of the Standardization Committee and Deputy Director of the National Abrasives Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, delivered the work report and deployment for 2012, as well as outlined the 2013 Standard Revision Plan. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology also provided updates on the latest requirements and project review procedures for industry standards. During the conference, the relevant technical committees of the Standardization Committee reviewed and approved two national standards and three mechanical industry standards. These included: 1. **Safety Requirements for Bonded Abrasives**: Based on the European standard EN12413, this standard will amend the existing mandatory standard GB 2494-2003, "General Abrasives Safety Rules," ensuring continued compliance upon approval. 2. **Spinning Test Method for Grinding Wheels**: Replacing GB/T 2493-1995. 3. **Code and Marking of Electroplated Products for Superabrasive Products**: Replacing JB/T 7991.1-2001. 4. **Superhard Abrasive Products: Diamond Soft Grinding Sheets**: The first industry standard for this category. 5. **Superhard Abrasive Detonation Nanodiamonds**: Another pioneering industry standard. However, the mechanical industry standard "Diamond Abrasive Products Diamond Coating Drawing Mold" (submission draft) was not approved due to technical issues in its requirements, testing methods, and formatting. It is scheduled for re-examination after revisions. Following the meeting, the drafting units of the reviewed standards must submit their drafts. Approved national standards will then be sent to the National Standardization Administration for approval, while mechanical industry standards will be forwarded to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Implementation is anticipated for the second half of 2013 or early 2014. Additionally, the relevant sub-technical committees discussed and agreed to move several proposals into the standard formulation and revision stages, including "Safety Requirements for Coated Abrasives," "Methods for Measuring the Density of Ordinary Abrasive Powders," and "Magnetic Abrasives." Other proposals such as "Ordinary Abrasive P Fine Powder Particle Size Composition Determination Method" and "Consolidated Abrasive Technology Requirements" were also advanced. Finally, recent approvals from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology include "Ordinary Abrasive Ceramic Corundum," "Superhard Abrasive Titanium Diamond," and "Measurement of Capillary Capillary Phenomena," which are now part of the Machinery Industry Standards Revision Plan, with implementation expected in 2013.
