To help residents save energy without breaking the bank, the Taipei City Industrial Development Bureau has launched the "LED Bulb 5 Smart Purchase" initiative, offering practical tips for choosing the right LED bulbs.
Here are five smart tips to consider when selecting LED bulbs:
1. **Adjust Color Temperature Based on Season and Environment**: LED bulbs come in a range of color temperatures from 2700K (warm yellow) to 6500K (cool white). Warm light is ideal for winter or spaces like bedrooms, living rooms, and dining areas, while cooler white light is better suited for summer or workspaces such as studies and kitchens.
2. **Prioritize High Color Rendering for Accurate Color Representation**: The Color Rendering Index (CRI) measures how accurately colors appear under a light source, with values ranging from 0 to 100. While most LED bulbs today have a CRI above 75, it's recommended to go for a CRI of 80 or higher, especially if you're a photographer or artist who needs accurate color representation.
3. **Choose the Right Number and Luminous Flux Based on Space**: Luminous flux refers to the brightness of the bulb. For example, a 16-square-meter bedroom may only need two 13W LED bulbs, while a study might require up to five. Adjust the number of bulbs based on the size and lighting needs of your space.
4. **Opt for High Luminous Efficiency for Maximum Energy Savings**: Luminous efficiency is measured in lumens per watt (lm/W). The higher the value, the more energy-efficient the bulb. Most modern LED bulbs offer over 80 lm/W, meaning they use less power while providing the same level of brightness.
5. **Select the Appropriate Beam Angle for Your Lighting Fixtures**: General-purpose LED bulbs are ideal for downlights, while wide-angle bulbs are better for floodlights. The beam angle determines how spread out the light is. Choose the right type depending on your fixture—narrow-angle for focused lighting and wide-angle for broader coverage.
