Home textile life: how to clean the blanket

1. If your home’s blanket is made of wool:

Start by soaking the wool blanket in cold water to loosen any dirt or stains. Gently press it with your hands—never twist or wring it, as this can damage the fibers. After washing, it's important to dry it properly. Avoid using a dryer at all costs, as the heat can cause the blanket to shrink or the fabric to become stiff. Instead, lay it flat on a clean towel and let it air dry in a shaded area. For best results, never leave the blanket soaked for too long, as prolonged exposure to water can lead to shrinking or even mildew.

Honeycomb wool blankets are especially delicate and prone to shrinking, so it's highly recommended to have them professionally dry cleaned. Here are some key tips to keep in mind:

(1) Never put wool blankets in a washing machine, as the agitation can cause them to lose their shape.

(2) Always soak the wool blanket in cold water first, then gently press it by hand—no twisting!

(3) After washing, avoid using a clothes dryer. Opt for air drying instead to prevent shrinkage or hardening of the material.

2. If your home has a synthetic fiber blanket (such as acrylic or polyester):

These types of blankets are generally more durable and can usually be washed in a washing machine. However, it's important to follow the right steps to maintain their quality. Use a gentle cycle and make sure the water temperature doesn't exceed 40°C—too much heat can damage the fibers. After washing, always air dry the blanket in a well-ventilated, shaded area. Never use a dryer, as it may cause the fabric to shrink or become stiff over time.

If the blanket is very large or heavy, it might be better to take it to a professional dry cleaner. When dealing with stains, act quickly. Rinse the stained area with cold water immediately to prevent the stain from setting. You can also add a small amount of fabric softener during the wash to help keep the blanket feeling soft and comfortable.

Here are some additional tips for caring for synthetic fiber blankets:

(1) Most synthetic fiber blankets can be safely washed in a washing machine.

(2) Keep the water temperature between 20°C and 40°C to protect the fabric.

(3) Always dry the blanket in a cool, shaded place—never in a dryer.

(4) Adding fabric softener during washing helps maintain the softness and comfort of the blanket.
