The construction of the Zhengzhou Airport Economic Comprehensive Experimental Zone has received a major boost. According to the Economic Development Zone Management Committee, the first class of the Zhengzhou-Xinjiang-European International Freight Railway is set to launch tomorrow. This marks a significant milestone in establishing a direct logistics channel between Zhengzhou and Europe, significantly reducing travel time and enhancing trade efficiency.
This new railway route will connect freight lines over 10,000 kilometers, with a journey time of approximately 16 to 18 days—cutting travel time by about 15 days compared to traditional shipping routes. As a result, Henan Province is expected to become a key distribution hub and transfer point for goods from central, northwest, northern, and northeastern China.
The opening of the Zhengzhou International Freight Railway is one of the core initiatives of the Zhengzhou Airport Economic Comprehensive Experimental Zone. It represents a new competitive edge for both the province and the city, further connecting Asian and European markets and promoting economic integration between East and West. After nearly four months of preparation, on July 8, the Zhengzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone Management Committee and the Alashankou Port Management Committee met in Xinjiang and signed a cooperation memorandum. The two parties pledged to fully utilize their resources to operate international freight trains, open up the Zhengzhou-Xinjiang-Europe logistics corridor, and support the development of the Eurasian Continental Bridge.
Through multimodal transport and modern information technology, the two regions will enhance logistics integration and strengthen operational mechanisms such as “public railway transport,†“MTR joint transport,†and “airport intermodal transport.†These efforts will create a more favorable environment for industrial growth.
It is reported that the Zhengzhou International Freight Railway train starts in Zhengzhou, exits through Alashankou in Xinjiang, and arrives in Hamburg, Germany after passing through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, and Poland. The total distance covered is 10,214 kilometers, with an estimated travel time of 16 to 18 days, offering a faster alternative to sea freight.
With the active participation of companies such as COSCO Qingdao Branch, Henan WorldCom International Logistics, and Henan Material Group Corporation, the first batch of cargo has been carefully prepared. This includes tires, whiteboards, textiles, footwear, bags, abrasives, industrial yarns, sleeping bags, sheep shearing, furniture, sheepskin products, machinery, auto parts, dried fruits, and clothing. These preparations ensure that the Zhengzhou-Xinjiang-European freight train will become the first international train on the Eurasian Continental Bridge in China.
According to the plan, the line will operate 14 international flights this year, with 50 planned for 2014. The value of imports and exports is expected to exceed $1 billion, signaling a promising future for international trade through this newly established route.
