Grease is a solid to semi-fluid lubricant made by dispersing one or more thickeners in a liquid lubricant. To enhance its performance, various additives are often included to provide specific properties such as improved heat resistance, corrosion protection, or load-carrying ability.

Age Hardening refers to the hardening of grease over time when stored, which can affect its consistency and application performance.

Appearance describes the visual characteristics of grease, including overall look, texture, color, and shine. It may include descriptions like "smooth," "gritty," "oily," or "creamy." Colors might be described as red, blue, yellow, or white, with adjectives such as "light," "medium," or "dark." The luster could be "bright" or "dull."

Consistency refers to how resistant a grease is to deformation under external force. It's an important factor in determining the suitability of a grease for a particular application.

Cone Penetration is a standard measurement used to determine the consistency of grease. A higher penetration value indicates a softer grease, while a lower value means it's harder.

Consistency Grade is classified by the NLGI (National Lubricating Grease Institute) into nine grades ranging from 000 to 6. Each grade defines the hardness or softness of the grease, helping users choose the right product for their needs.

Mechanical Stability measures a grease’s ability to maintain its consistency when subjected to mechanical stress, such as shearing. A grease with good mechanical stability will not break down easily during use.

Thixotropy is the property of a grease that allows it to become less viscous when agitated or sheared, then return to its original state when at rest. This characteristic is crucial for effective lubrication in moving parts.

Water Resistance is the ability of a grease to remain on a bearing and resist being washed away by water. It also includes the capacity to prevent moisture from damaging the grease structure and to protect metal surfaces from corrosion in wet environments.

Colloidal Stability refers to the ability of a grease to resist oil separation. A stable grease maintains its uniform composition over time, ensuring consistent performance.
