Key Construction Points for Geogrid Installation

**1. Pre-construction Preparation**
Before starting the geogrid installation, it is essential to thoroughly review all relevant technical documents, specifications, and construction guidelines. This ensures that the team fully understands the project requirements and standards. Additionally, the subgrade elevation must be measured accurately before laying the geogrid. Before installation, the physical and mechanical properties of the geogrid—such as tensile strength and elongation—must be tested. Only after passing these tests should the material be used.
**2. Labor Organization and Equipment**
Each subgrade team consists of 8 workers, equipped with tools such as hammers, vices, 8-gauge wire, and U-shaped nails. These tools are necessary for proper installation and securing of the geogrid.
**3. Trial Section and Laying Process**
A trial section should be laid first to ensure the process meets quality standards. The steps include:
- Subgrade leveling
- Sectional laying
- Lap connection
- End reverse processing
- Fixing ends using U-shaped nails
**4. Construction Methods**
- The geogrid material must meet the technical specifications outlined in the drawings, with a tensile strength of at least 40 kN/m and elongation less than 10%. Only materials that pass the test can be used.
- The geogrid should be laid along the longitudinal direction of the embankment.
- A 20 cm overlap is required between sections, connected using 8-gauge wire.
- A 1-meter reverse section is reserved and fixed with U-shaped nails connected to the lower grid.
- At the junctions between cut and fill areas, if the fill length exceeds 10 meters, the top and bottom geogrids embedded in the excavation area should be at least 6 meters long, while those in the fill area should be at least 10 meters. If the fill length is less than 10 meters, the geogrid should extend into the fill area, with the embedded length in the excavation area being no less than 3/5 of the fill length.
**5. Important Considerations**
- When laying the geogrid, it should be placed perpendicular to the embankment axis, aligning with the high-strength direction.
- The soil surface where the geogrid is laid must be smooth and free of sharp objects like stones or debris. After installation, fill material should be added promptly to prevent prolonged exposure to sunlight. The interval between installation and filling should not exceed 48 hours.
- The geogrid should be covered with earth fill. All vehicles and machinery should only travel along the embankment axis to avoid damaging the geogrid.
- Care must be taken during construction to prevent any damage to the geogrid, ensuring the overall quality of the project.
- The geogrid should be laid straight and smooth, avoiding wrinkles or distortions that could affect performance.
