In mid-December 2013, seven major provincial science and technology projects were initiated in Guizhou’s high-tech sectors, including the research and industrialization of key technologies for producing low-density and ultra-high-density ceramsite proppants. These projects were launched with the aim of promoting the sustainable and rapid development of the industry.
To support these initiatives, the Science and Technology Department allocated a total of 29.32 million yuan in financial funds, encouraging enterprises to invest an additional 124.95 million yuan. Once completed, the projects are expected to generate approximately 1.33 billion yuan in sales revenue, 280 million yuan in profits and taxes, and lead to the filing of 89 patents (including 44 invention patents), 26 software copyrights, and the creation of 15 new standards and procedures.
The research and industrialization of low-density and ultra-high-density ceramsite proppant technology began in the materials field. One challenge was that the apparent density of low-density proppant made from bauxite was too high for use in horizontal wells, leading to sedimentation issues. The project successfully addressed key technical challenges, such as high apparent density, low apparent density, and high breaking rates during production. These proppants are essential for oil, natural gas, and shale gas extraction, helping to establish a more complete ceramsite proppant industry cluster in Guizhou.
Another project, “Key Technology Research and Industrialization of New Mine Hoist,†focused on the integration of light and electrical technologies. It aimed to meet the growing needs of China's mining equipment manufacturing industry. By leveraging the technical expertise and market advantages of Guiyang Plateau Mining Machinery Company, along with collaboration with China Aviation Power Source Hydraulics Company, the project developed new mine hoists with advanced control systems, improved operational stability, and enhanced structural design. This resulted in a domestically competitive product with independent intellectual property rights.
Additionally, the “Research and Development and Industrialization of Key Technologies for Mobile Internet Media Real-Time Interactive Platform†was led by Guiyang Langma Information Technology Co., Ltd. This project targeted breakthroughs in real-time interactive streaming media platforms for mobile internet in Guizhou. The goal was to build a scalable and user-loyal ecosystem combining platform applications and content services, providing effective channels for digital content creators, animation designers, and mobile app developers in the region.
