Abstract Jinchang is rich in wind and solar energy resources, with an annual sunshine duration exceeding 2000 hours. The region features a vast Gobi Desert covering 3,000 square kilometers, making it ideal for large-scale renewable energy projects. The city has a well-developed power grid and strong industrial support, positioning it as one of the most promising areas for new energy development in China. It has become a national priority for wind and solar energy development.
With one year of focused efforts, Jinchang has secured 3 million kilowatts of wind and photovoltaic development capacity. Over 20 enterprises have invested in building wind power stations, and five projects are already connected to the grid, with a total online capacity of 300,000 kilowatts. The U.S.-based MEMC company has launched a polysilicon production project in Jinchang, supporting the local development of new energy equipment manufacturing, including solar mounting systems, galvanizing, and inverters.
In recognition of its progress, the National Development and Reform Commission has designated Jinchang as a national demonstration city for new energy utilization. This status highlights the city's role in leading China’s transition toward clean and sustainable energy sources. With continued investment and policy support, Jinchang is well on its way to becoming a key hub for renewable energy in the region.
