Spark machine electrode

The spark machine electrode, also known as copper, is also indispensable in spark machining.

When the spark is machined, the electrodes and the workpiece are respectively connected to the two poles of the pulse power supply. The pulse voltage applied across the electrodes and the workpiece creates a spark discharge. The instantaneous temperature of the discharge can be as high as 10,000 degrees Celsius or higher, and the high temperature causes the surface of the workpiece to be partially vaporized or melted.

The next pulse voltage is followed by a spark discharge between the electrode and the workpiece, and the above process is repeated.

By repeating the pulse discharge innumerable times, the shape corresponding to the shape of the electrode is finally processed. Therefore, as long as the shape of the electrode is changed, various complicated profiles can be processed.

In spark machining, the role of the electrode is to transport the machining pulse and to etch the workpiece with minimal loss of the electrode itself. Commonly used electrode materials are copper, graphite, copper tungsten alloy, silver tungsten alloy, steel, brass, cast iron and the like.
