Installation Techniques for Small and Medium-Sized Cylindrical Bore Bearings

When it comes to installing small and medium-sized bearings, the most common method is using a press at normal temperature. These bearings typically have a slight interference fit, making them suitable for this approach. To ensure even pressure distribution and prevent misalignment, it's recommended to use a spherical washer or steel balls as a preface before applying force. This helps maintain proper alignment along the bearing’s axis and avoids lateral tilting.
The inner ring of the bearing usually fits tightly with the shaft. There are different installation methods depending on the situation. You can either press the inner ring directly onto the shaft or press the shaft into the bearing. Once the bearing and shaft are assembled, they should then be pressed into the bearing housing.
For the outer ring, which also has a tight fit with the housing, the best practice is to first press the outer ring into the housing hole, and then insert the shaft into the bearing. If both the inner ring and outer ring are in tight cooperation, you need to carefully press the inner ring onto the shaft while ensuring that the outer ring is properly seated in the housing.
When using a sleeve during installation, its inner diameter should be slightly larger than the inner diameter of the bearing ring being pressed, and its outer diameter should be slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the same ring. This prevents the sleeve from coming into contact with the shaft or housing, which could cause damage or misalignment.
It's important to make sure that the end face of the sleeve is flush with the inner ring during installation. The shaft must remain coaxial with the housing hole, and the axial position must be correct. Any deviation could result in gaps between the inner ring and the shoulder or shoulder hole, or even damage to the rolling elements and raceways if the axial clearance is exceeded.
Proper installation not only ensures smooth operation but also extends the service life of the bearing. Always take your time and follow these guidelines to avoid unnecessary wear and tear.
