Wall Painting Tips: Preparing for the Work

Protecting door and window frames is essential during painting. Cover the edges of doors, windows, furniture, and paint joints with color separation paper. For wooden cabinets and partitions, wrap them in newspapers to prevent paint drips from staining the surfaces. This helps maintain a clean and professional finish.

When applying paint, it's important to calculate the required amount accurately. For walls with specific color needs, ensure materials are evenly distributed. A general rule is that total coating area (including ceiling) equals floor area multiplied by 3.5, accounting for ceiling height and number of windows and doors. High-quality paints like Nippon Paint or Classic Paint cover approximately 16–20 square meters per liter, depending on the thickness of the coat.

Applying a primer before painting is crucial. It prevents moisture absorption, ensures even color application, and helps avoid water stains on the final coat. Proper priming makes the topcoat look more uniform and lasts longer.

Painting Tips: Pay Attention to Details

For roller painting, follow this order: first the ceiling, then the trim, and finally the back wall. Apply at least two coats of paint on the walls. The first coat can be diluted with 5–10% water to help the wall absorb it better. The second coat should be applied without water, and there should be a proper drying time between coats.

Use two types of rollers for better results. Start with a coarse roller to spread the paint evenly, then use a fine one to smooth out any imperfections. Roll in all directions—horizontal, vertical, and diagonal—to achieve an even finish. Avoid overloading the roller with too much paint, and maintain steady pressure and speed while rolling.

Post-Construction Touch-Ups

After using a roller, go over the walls and corners with a brush, especially around seams, wooden cabinets, and partitions. These areas often need extra attention to ensure a flawless finish.

Once the paint is dry, sand the walls lightly with sandpaper to reduce brush marks and make the surface smoother. Check the texture regularly as you work, and apply moderate pressure across the entire wall to avoid uneven spots.

Cleaning and Final Inspection

1. Remove any paint splatters from baseboards and other areas. 2. Inspect the wall color to ensure it matches the design specifications. Check for consistency and ensure no defects such as peeling, uneven brushing, blistering, or alkali efflorescence occur.
