As spring plowing begins across the country, from south to north, agricultural activities are rapidly picking up. The nation is entering a peak season for spring farming, with field management and planting efforts gaining momentum. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, this year's winter wheat area has expanded by 109 million mu compared to the previous year. Most major producing regions are in good condition, with robust and healthy wheat crops. Nationally, 51.5% of the farmland is planted with winter wheat—up 2.5 percentage points from last year, marking the highest level since 1998.
The supply of agricultural resources for spring plowing remains stable, with hybrid maize, rice, and cotton seeds available in sufficient quantities. Fertilizer supplies are adequate, and prices have been gradually declining. Seeds, diesel, agricultural film, and pesticides remain at stable levels. All regions are working quickly to prepare for the upcoming planting season. In areas where winter wheat is harvested, attention is being given to the timely sowing of paddy rice, while in rice-producing regions, seedling transplanting is being accelerated. In the northwest, efforts are focused on spring mulching, while the northeast is preparing for early spring cold resistance measures.
In Heilongjiang, 90.48 million mu of land was prepared in autumn, with 2.78 million standardized rice nurseries and 200 intelligent germination bases newly established, laying a solid foundation for early seedling growth and transplanting.
Despite the positive start to the agricultural season, challenges remain. Unpredictable spring weather, particularly the risk of cold snaps and flooding in the northeast, as well as potential pest and disease outbreaks, must be closely monitored. The Ministry of Agriculture has already begun organizing field management and plowing operations, mobilizing experts and technicians to develop and refine technical strategies. Collaborating with the China Meteorological Administration, they have issued forecasts for agricultural meteorological disasters and proposed mitigation plans. Efforts are also underway to establish high-yield food production models and promote balanced crop output across large areas.
To support the spring farming season, the government is ensuring the availability of agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, while strengthening market oversight and maintaining agricultural machinery to ensure smooth operations. In the coming period, the Ministry will work with relevant departments to implement policies like seed subsidies, minimum purchase price guarantees, and temporary storage programs, aiming to boost farmers' income expectations and secure the planting area for spring sowing.
Additionally, the ministry will organize the establishment of high-yield grain production models, tackle challenges, and create demonstration zones for efficient and high-yield farming. Pest monitoring and early warning systems will be strengthened, with timely release of information and promotion of professional, unified defense strategies. Key technologies, such as "one spray and three defenses" for wheat, greenhouse cultivation in the northeast, and intensive rice seedling management in the south, will be actively promoted through on-the-ground technical guidance provided by agricultural officials and technicians.
