Solvay launches extrusion grade polyphenylene sulfide

HC Plastics News:

On October 16, Solvay introduced the first extrusion grade polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) as a supplement to the company's injection-grade PPS materials for automotive coolant piping assembly products.

According to reports, the new extrusion grade PPS extrusion series has three specifications, the stiffness is between 1500MPa and 2500MPa, which can be used to meet the requirements of flexible pipe for different wall thickness and diameter, and meet the processing needs of post-extrusion thermoforming. The flexible coolant line made of Solvay's new extruded polymer is superior in melt strength, chemical and thermal stability, as well as tensile elongation and impact strength.

Andreas Lutz, Regional Development Manager, Solvay Specialty Polymers Global Business Unit, states that because the coolant line is the final stage designed to match the components of the engine compartment, its materials must not only provide design freedom to achieve complex wiring. It must also have superior heat and chemical resistance to ensure safe operation without additional weight.

At present, Solvay is expanding its application development center in Borathai, Italy, to develop innovative technologies to help automotive foundry manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers to fully utilize the potential of the company's materials to maximize benefits.
