The United States is proposing to build a "Space Fence" system that monitors objects around the Earth. The system consists of two subgrade radars, one of which is planned to be built in the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marcel Islands.
According to the project office, this system will enhance our ability to detect, track, identify, and analyze objects moving around the Earth, including commercial and military satellites, rocket wrecks, and more.
Ken Francois, head of the "space fence" system, said: "Space surveillance capabilities have always been a concern of the United States and its allies. The space fence system will increase predictive power and reduce collisions in space. â€
In early 2011, the task of building the project was handed over to Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, asking them to build a preliminary system design and 18 months. Prototype, and perform radar performance analysis to evaluate other technical content.
Ken François said: "So far, all the work is steadily advancing, so we can ensure the maturity level of building a space fence." The initial operation of the space fence system is estimated to be in 2017, and full operation will wait until 2020.
