Research on High-Efficiency Solar Cell Materials in the UK

A new study by Cambridge University scientists found a promising group of mixed lead halide perovskite materials that can recycle light particles. This new discovery opens the door to maximizing the efficiency of solar cells, which will lead to the realization of a new generation of high-efficiency solar cells that are affordable.

The mixed lead halide perovskite is a special synthetic material that has a revolutionary impact on the development of the solar energy field. Scientists have carried out a lot of research, once the material can be manufactured cheaply and simply, within a few years. Perovskite solar cells will have almost the same energy efficiency as current solar panel silicon wafers. Research on the ability of perovskites to optimize the recycling of sunlight is just the beginning. Solar cells charge by absorbing solar photons. This process, in turn, is also feasible, because when the charge is recombined, they can generate photons. This study shows that Perovskite solar cells have the additional ability to reabsorb these regenerated photons, the photon recycling process. The ability to use cyclic photons can make it relatively easy for a battery to break through the energy efficiency limits of solar panels.

Using these materials not only can develop solar cells, but also can develop LED development. This research was mainly completed by Cambridge University in cooperation with Oxford University and the Netherlands Institute of Material Research.
