By 2013, China's domestic steel demand and supply may be close to equilibrium. In 2011, China's domestic demand for crude steel was about 660 million tons, while domestic crude steel capacity was estimated to be 770 million tons. If China's crude steel demand increases by 30 million tons per year in 2012-2013, China's crude steel capacity utilization rate will reach 90% by 2013. The global economy is the biggest uncertainty. In the most difficult global economy in 2009, the demand for coils in the four major export-oriented economies of Japan, South Korea, Germany and Taiwan fell by 30 million tons, while the demand for coils in China increased by only 12 million tons.
