Chemically strengthened glass promotes the popularization of smart phone glass cover

Chemically strengthened glass refers to a glass that has been strengthened by chemical strengthening treatment. Because the American Apple "iPhone" and "iPad" are made of Corning's chemically strengthened glass "GorillaGlass". In the past, the surface cover of old mobile phones was mostly made of resin. Smartphones and tablets, for the convenience of users to touch screen operations, mainly use chemically strengthened glass with no scratches on the surface and high strength. Among them, GorillaGlass' market share is far ahead, and the second place is Asahi Glass's "Dragontrail".

Chemically strengthened glass generally refers to aluminosilicate glass that has been chemically strengthened. Although soda lime glass used for windows and the like can be chemically strengthened, the chemically strengthened aluminosilicate glass is superior in strength.

High strength, chemically strengthened aluminosilicate glass

It is widely known for being used as a glass cover for the iPhone. It has strong bending property and strong impact resistance.

Aluminosilicate glass contains sodium ions. By immersing the glass in a high temperature potassium nitrate (KNO3) solution, the sodium ions of the glass surface layer are replaced by potassium ions (ion exchange). The potassium ion is larger than the diameter of the sodium ion, so the area of the glass surface layer is increased by ion exchange. But in reality, there is no change in volume, so "compressive stress" is generated. This is how working strength is enhanced by chemical strengthening.

Recently, "OGS (oneglasssolution)" has attracted attention as a method for reducing the number of glass substrates used. OGS specifically refers to the integration of the touch panel on the glass cover. However, chemically strengthened glass is less compatible with OGS.

Chemically strengthened glass is not easy to cut, so it was originally chemically strengthened after cutting the final shape by the manufacturer of the glass cover. The best way to reduce costs with OGS is to combine the patterns of multiple touch panels to improve them and then cut them. Therefore, in order to be able to adopt the OGS method, glass manufacturers have provided large-sized glass that is easier to cut and chemically strengthened.

Steel poles are commonly used to carry several types of electric power lines, distribution lines and lighting system.  Distribution lines carry power from local substations to customers. They generally carry voltages from 4.6 to 33kV for distances up to 30 miles, and include transformers to step the voltage down from the primary voltage to the lower secondary voltage used by the customer. A service drop carries this lower voltage to the customer's premises.
